General Meeting Notes, May 2, 2007

- New members were introduced.
- Committee Reports
- Flea Market: Don’t forget to volunteer or sign up for a table (see the May newsletter or website for more details; call Tori or Ray at 410-675-4948)
- Crime: reminder that the committee meets the 3rd Wednesday of each month; discussion regarding whether to remove the gazebo at Castle St. Park
- Education; it’s time again to adopt a teacher; contact Martha Delpizzo, 410-522-6046, for more information.
- Baltimore City Arborist, Rebecca Feldberg spoke about future projects for the city: increase the tree canopy by 100% in 30 years; the current canopy is 20% coverage; also spoke about increasing the size of tree pits; Michael Morris also spoke and answered questions related to trees and sidewalks (see these websites for more information: http://www.ci.baltimore.md.us/services/; www.isa-arbor.com; www.tressaregood.com; www.goodtreecare.com
- 3 goals include improving the maintenance of trees; improving coordination with other departments and providing incentives for private property owners
- CERT (Community Emergency Response Team): Vernese Osborne spoke about the training offered by CERT; goal entail learning how to prepare and protect your family, community and home; our association would join CERT and have 15 to 20 members participate in a training program (16 hours); more details to follow at a future meeting regarding setting up the training course. - The new library on Eastern Ave. in Highlandtown will be opening in June.
- Don’t forget to join the association by the June meeting as there will be a vote at the general meeting regarding CHAP.
- Great clean-up in April! Thanks to all! Let’s keep our streets clean!
- Banner Neighborhoods is moving to new office space by June 1st; the new website is up and running (www.BannerNeighborhoods.org); 410-276-8373.
- Don’t forget to sign up for the Wine Tasting on Thursday, May 31st to support the Friends of Patterson Park; tickets are $50 each (www.pattersonpark.com).
