OCTOBER 1997
President's Message:
It is probably obvious to many of you that I think our neighborhood should be interested in issues that affect the larger community such as parks and rec, libraries and the city budget. As a community association, we are also concerned about public safety, sanitation, trees, abandoned houses and many other quality-of-life issues. We already have committees actively working on these and other concerns. We can help solve any problem we face if we work together. There are only two things that we need to succeed: a few volunteers and direction from the community at large. At the October General Meetlng we are going to revisit some of the long-range planning goals we identified two years ago and assess what we as an association have accomplished and where our major concerns and goals are now. Please come and give us your ideas and don't hesitate to pitch in where your heart leads you.
-Clint Roby
BUTCHERS HILL HOUSE TOUR: Oct. 12, 1:00 to 5:00 Another exciting house tour is just around the corner, Sunday, October 12th. It takes the cooperation of the whole community to make this a success. The committee worked hard, now we need everyone to help show visitors that we care about our great neighborhood .The houses are only part of the attraction. Great neighbors are what REALLY makes Butchers Hill so delightful. Little things like sweeping, picking up trash and putting out our banners and flowers make us all look great. Thank you in advance to the twelve participants on the tour.
Treat yourself and a friend to a fun day of refreshments, courtesy of St. Andrews Orthodox Church at Lombard and Chester, and refreshing views of how to make a building a home - or what's behind the lovely wall mural on the corner of Washington and Pratt. Only three of the houses have ever been on Tour before. Tickets are available at O'Connor, Piper & Flynn or Long & Foster on Broadway (in advance: $6 - $8 the day of the tour). Volunteers to sell tickets and house sit are still needed - Call 410-522-6773.
